I'm sure Rewarder can make a set, they made most of the FX/ZZ4 headers so they know how they need to be built.

This is the sheet from Dale's FI motor. They intend to change out the cam and try the pull again sometime in Feb.

James or Dale will have to confirm this but, If you look in the GM Performance Parts book, Dales "(376/480) EFI Crate motor" came with a different cam than Robs carbed (376/515) crate motor, so I think he's just going to try the same cam Rob's engine has?? So, the engines will be the same except for it'll be a carb vs EFI, which will be interesting.

I assumed when they called it a crate motor class it was going to be much the same as the zz4 class, no modifications allowed. So changing the cam in one motor to match the other one is kind of defeating the "crate" part of the equation. Seems you may as well just build your own motors for the class, then you never have to worry about cheating.

It will end up a crate motor class. For this year it is being run with the B class. If the engines last then there will be a crate classmade specifically for that engine.

Hey guys Im not 100% in the loop on ALL the details of both engines but yes as stated the cam change is to try to get the power of the EFI motor to that of the carb motor and yes they came with different cams as Jesse stated.

Nothing on the motors failed the change is simply to try to even out the two induction systems.

Cheers

Had a chat with Dale yesterday and while the direction/concept of the class is in place the rules as of yet have not been carved in stone. Untill race type results are known the engine specs etc are in developmental stage at best.

What he did say is the intent IS to allow for Ford and Mopar engines in the class as long as they fall in generally the same HP area, so this will NOT be as restrictive a class as ZZ4/FX.

The LS3 FI motor as it came from the factory did not fit into the target area of ~550 HP and thus the reasoning for the cam swap. The details of what will be allowed are a ways away yet but the hope is to base this class on 550ish HP crate engines which will allow triple digit speeds on a more reasonable budget.

Stay tuned for the next dyno results

hopefully it ends up with something under 500 @ the impeller or I just don't see that the engines will live through a marathon , and if the light weight boats and crews that are dialed in are hitting a 100 cool , but as is with all racing even in the restricted classes the top three spot are fought out with bucks and the rest of us also rans are just out to have some fun .....

Hey - just joined up to the forum.....great to see some discussion around the LS class. Anybody looking to bring an LS powered boat out to New Zealand for the worlds??? If we can get a few of us we should be able to run a non-sanctioned LS class......
