After trying to sipher through more than 100 pages on the build.......all I can say is........what a project and quite an experience.
Can you give us a shortened version of the adjustments that took place after your first testing to get the fine tuning accomplished?? And what is your fastest run so far?? What would you do differently if you started again?

I'd love that power plant in my boat........it sounds RADICAL!!! Cool

Well... the first problem I ran into was the shape of the lifting strakes. The were curving inwards in front and meeting in center (see pic). This made the boat do I violent "spin-out" at 70mph++. After that I made the lifting strakes paralell to the keel. This made the boat much more stable and I was able to get her up to 79-80mph. Then the boat was flying so high in the air that the boat became unstable. I then made and mounted some trim-tabs... I have not tested the tabs in 70+ yet, but I can already feel how much more stable the boat has got.

This weekend I hope to test some high speed runs Very Happy

I'm currently running 13psi boost (270-290hp), but if the hull tunres out stable I should be able to give her 18-20psi boost (330-350hp)

I doubt I'll ever build one in aluminum since I'm a fiberglass guy Wink

Trond:

Clearly you are a MASTER of fiberglass. I still can't help but think how much easier the fabrication would have been in aluminum as well. Good to hear that you're getting the bugs worked out. I LOVE THAT MOTOR!!

Now I have lowered the trim-tabs to be flush with the hull. It started to porpose on my last run, so hopefully this will prevent some of it.
After the violent spinn-out I had doing 70mph+, I'm kind of scared doing these speed-runs Embarassed

I'm thinking you might incorporate one of those F-18 fighter jet cockpits like they use on the drag boats Wink Mr. Green Mr. Green

I suspect that the piston and conecting rod leaning against the wall is not from this boat.

Correct Wink

Those parts are from my 1947 hot bulb engine. 50 hp....

Same engine:

I tried to put some wire wool into the exhaust tips to quiet it down, but it got too restrictive... But it went down to a lot more "friendly" noice level.

The next test will be with some "mill-shavings"

Here's a video of the stuffed exhaust.

Well... I have allready made plans for my next build. I know the first one isn't 100% finish yet, but the next project will start sometime in 2011.
I will make a "project-thread" for it as soon as I have something to work with. My head is overflowing with ideas for the next build, but I have narrowed it down to somthing like this:

*An open 20ft V-hull boat (Venus v20 xtrm). Buildt after my spesifications.
*Two Rotax turbo engines linked together with chain or belt and producing ca 350hp each.
*Single jetpump.

The engines will be placed backwards with the shaft facing forward.
I do it this way to save some space... This will make the propshaft turn the wrong way if I want to use a rxp pump, but I'm not sure a rxp pump is big enough for 700hp. I might use one of those big V8 pumps instead.

The plan is the get this badboy up to around 80++

I know i can just mount a big supercharged v8 in there.... but I want to do something special that none has done before me. And I love the sound of the Rotax... imagine the sound of two!! Since the engines are fixed together, I'm now able to change the sound by setting the engines to run with an variable degree offset to eachother.

Here's a link to pics of the boat I want to use:
http://www.venus-boats.no/docs/venus_20_galleri/index.htm

I'm having a meeting with the constructor behindVenus sometimes next week.

Maybe some of you gurus could help me out choosing a pump for this puppy? The rpm's are 8-8500rpm... but I can change gears and have the pump-shaft turn slower if nessesary.
