I know this is been talked about before, but I'm looking at one of these things and wondering if anybody has any bad stories. I end up doing alot of boating in really skinny water, and I just can't see how the plastic could outlast the stainless, any takers. On average I replace about 4-5 wear rings and probable a dozen impellers a season. Will I be disappointed when I wreck this thing the first time I run over a few gravel bars?

HOLY CR@PShocked , it would appear that I have a rival in the gravel crushing department. You must be a preferred Mercury customer Wink Laughing

I may try a UHMW wear ring next time I need one, the principle intrigues me. Please get one so that you can advise. You seem like the perfect candidate.

I don't think you will be disappointed at all with the UHWM ring at all. I have one and have pumped a bit of gravel through it and see no difference from when it was brand new!
You have to remember the UHMW is a Little bit flexible so the rocks won't wear it out as fast as a steel one. (My thoughts on it anyway)

UHMW has a wear resistance of about 10 to 1 over AR plate.

Howdy there wonders
to find out if uhmw can take on gravel or silt
go down to your local sand blasting company and ask them to sand blast
some uhmw and see what they tell you
you see I had a sand blasting company in Dawson Creek when I lived there and I finally started refusing to sand blast any thing that had to do with plastic as I was just wasting my time so when you mix water with
plastic it has a real hard time to get a hold of it and this is why 90% of boater want uhmw on the bottom of there boats and also this why snowmobiles have uhmw hi-faxes and ski's you will never see stainless hi-faxes or ski's but with uhmw and snow or even better water for this is the reason it out lasts stainless or Alum.
