I am thinking of buying a new 16v sportjet, just wondering on top speed, how fast out of the water, liters per hr as compared to a v8 boat. Is the 240 sj going to be discontinued? Is the 240 a good engine, problems? Any answers or insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure there is a reason why they don't offer that hull with the ZZ4 anymore, but I'm not sure what it is. I have never owned a SJ but having rode in a couple I'm really glad my 16' has the V8.

In my experience fuel consumption is directly related to your right foot. And that is even more evident in jet boats. So which engine is more fuel efficient would be driver specific. If you are happy going a little slower then a SJ might be better, but is your trying to keep up (which isn't going to happen) then the SJ are pretty thirsty.

Only my opinion, for what its worth.

Mercury discontinued the 240 in 2004. It was EFI based and did not meet emission standards. The 200 and 250 Opti which is DFI was marketed in its place. All are (were) good solid engines.
Mercury has also recently stated that they are discontinuing all their sportjet 2 stroke motors and moving towards 4 stroke units. There is still lots of inventory out their, so should be able to get new Opti's for at least 3 years.

Its unlikely that you find a dealer with a new 240 to put in a new boat.
If you want to run the shallow back channels then the 240 is an awesome engine. There is usually always some good used boats for sale with 240's in them.

Got a 240 in my Lynx and I like it. Don't let the V8 fans deter you Wink

They both have their fans, if you are not into fast shallow boats then go V8 but I would not trade mine for a V8 boat at this time in my life Cool

We have 2 brand new 16 sports with 240's at Northgate Honda. They are awesome little boats for running skinny water and just plain having fun. Top speed should be between 55 and 60mph.

what is the difference in weight between the 240 and the 250, I was told quite a bit
