Going where jet boats shouldn't....

Leadville and I ran down the kalamazoo river in western Michigan on Sunday from Allegan to the big lake (30miles?)

When we got to the big lake we found 3-6ft white caps. I would have turned around, but leadville is a different sort. Ok fine, I wouldn't have turned around either.

Turns out big waves make great ramps, and a sportjet can get pretty verticle and pretty high off the water.

However, going into waves at an angle proved to be somwhat of a mistake as the lips of a couple largers waves curled over the bow. A little wet, but no damage done.

Leadville's got the video, if someone's got the server space it could probably be posted.

Xerophobic,
I got Leadvilles video the other day. Head down I think the two of you would have a blast, getting stuck and jumping logs.
Video is awesome Laughing Some very cool clips on there MD. Good camera work as well. It is always hard to hang on a still get GOOD footage when you know you ARE going to crash Twisted Evil
I am capturing the video this week and will fire back the digi tape along with your free jetboating DVD, and another disc with the raw mpegs.
thanks again for the great action, it is good to see rivers from other regions.
ntjetboater.....now ski-dooing BTW

Naw not hard, just stupid. Smile Half the time with the low trees I just stick my arm up and duck under the screen. We need a helmet cam or a stable mount with a remote lens...

No I curse cause I am uncouth, that and I saw the wave coming and knew it wasn't going to be good.

You don't really get a sense from the video how high that wave was over the gunwhales...

whoa! that was messed up footage! Thats a sportjet? Looked like you were on an aluminum surfboard! lol
I wish the biggest problem we had yesterday was waves! We blew out frost plugs twice and had to stop in places of a rocky river we sure shouldn't have!
Then there was the "canoe" incident where I "bought" a throw away canoe for $300 which we used for about 12 mins LOL
Oh for future reference a canoe CANNOT be towed behind a big block jetboat for more than 9 seconds while on plane hehehehe

I suppose my buddy may tell a different story of our day after being thrown off the bow as I grounded out on a gravel bar at dusk tossing him into 8" of water(which was friggin freezing!) Its a wonder I can still call him my best friend.....(no thats not on cam)

I can't wait to see that video myself. I wouldn't want a rollbar in a dedicated river exploring boat but it sure is a sweet place to mount the cam and its rock solid. What equipment are you guys using?

Cheers

P.s. I HEAR you on the sore back! we almost had full tanks which I belive is 63 gallons on the tunnel Sad

We're just using a hand held Sony hi8, the image stabilization works fairly well.

it's coming together for Michigan this weekend...xero and midwest(?) are possibly making the trip... anyone else?

now which river....

Kalamazoo...pretty, deep, 30 miles from the dam to the big lake with bar and resturant at the big lake.

Grand, wide deep and how far do you want to go? (not so exciting)

Muskegon, downed trees, narrower, and still very pretty. ~40 miles to the dam.

"If ya ain't hittin bottom you ain't jetboatin" as they say, right Vince? Wink
Im all for whatever is most technical. Little dissapointed to hear there isn't any "rapidy flowing" waters to be seen but I'm up for skidding/jumping whatever I can. Sounds to me that my vote is for the Muskegon from what I have seen/read
I'm still trying to find a victim, I mean passenger for the adventure.......

Very Happy
