Have to do this run again with more boats and more water but what a gorgeous river!

chanced a few rapids but didnt want to risk the 'triple shelf" when I was the only boat, altho I easily made it up the first where I parked.

Here's the triple I didnt chance. Unfortunatly its one of those deals where the first shelf is best at the left(i did this easily), 2nd at the right, 3rd at the left!

Also the gap in the distance showed ALOT more whitewater. Should be an awesome run in about a month with more water

where on the bow was that i used to do that often put in at cochrane and go towards Seebe and behind the reserve were the rapids but you have to watch cause sometimes the white water rafters come down and meet you

Wasnt too bad but I dont think you'd want to run it when it was much lower than it was there. I may try this again this Sunday after the 3 days of rain we're due for, and some additional mountain melt. I'll start a new thread and post the link to the gov data site for river levels, everyone should bookmark it.

Dingo is that you? (former worlds racer) I put in at Morley and ran upstream towards the dam. I dont think its a very long run but some awesome scenery and likely some cool rapids.

Baldy no kidding, they finally are makin cell phones that are semi worthy of actually having real "camera's

yep thats me and next time try putting in at the cochrane bridge it they still let you and you can go down river towards calgary or up stream towards the ghost but that ends at the resivor and it is interesting run --you go behind the gas plant on the morley road

Hi Guys,
Im in Calgary and i launched at ghost reservoir and went up from there last year but it was a little too shallow for me (Newbie), how far does it go and is it doable with a little heavier boat (TJ LUXOR 19 ft) also any suggestion for good spot on bow where the levels are decent, how about Carseland have you guys been there?

Thanks for any input around this area or any other area for that matter!!!

Frank

i like to go in at cochrane under the bride then run to the gost dam or down into the bearspaw resivour its a good run for my 19 sport, was at carsland once last summer was alright but nothing special, lots of fly fishermen to watch out for.

Just got back from a trip out to the Bow again today, awesome weather. I was SHOCKED to see they had Gost lake even LOWER than last time I was there by nearly 3 feet. I doubt the stretch to Seebe dam was possible at all today. You certainly wouldnt make it past that first major rapid.

Instead I drove to the Seebe dam and launched above it and headed toward Canmore, River starts out wide and deep but around Ekshaw/Dwadmans flats starts dividing out into more channels. We picked one with a ton of flow but unfotunatly ran into major log jam issues. Stopped there and hiked around a bit, about 100 feet thru the tree's was another main channel of the river, lots of deadfall but fast flow, perfect fun run for a 17, just have to find that channel next time. The choices all seem about the same size so you're not sure which is the "main" one. Lots of water just twisty and hard to know what ones to chose, but of course fun

dead center of this map is where we ended up:

http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=51.057885,-115.297024&spn=0.00231,0.006201&t=h&z=18

Talked to some locals that know the river and they said runoff is 2-3 weeks late this year and they have aparantly been letting the lower sections flow alot more freely( i.e. Ghost etc) to keep them prepared for the rush and avoid floods etc. Ill upload pics soon as I get them off the phone. I ended up taking some glass boat guys up with me(maybe new recruits hehe)

Also had a chat with a fish and wildlife officer at the launch who was super nice, told me it was definitely legal all the way to the park boundary but he wasnt sure how well marked that is. Hopefully we'll find out tomorrow or next weekend.

Took one side channel and ended up in a culvert beside #1, got some funny pics there.

All in all a great day, the run to the park should be awesome

p.s. Noisy its looking like the Ghost to Seebe run can fluctuate greatly and on short notice so level of difficulty can vary accordingly. Today I wouldnt have tried it, last time it was tricky(tagged alot) the first time was so so. Im hoping to catch it when its between the first time and full flood because then its all just raging rapids and anything that you can do in a glass boat is probably not going to be very challenging for an aluminum jet. We've also concluded its not that long a run (24 kms by road) I would say in water at this level or anything more the run above Seebe would be alot more fun. I will also post the pic where the level was at Morley bridge from the 2nd time to compare, today it was maybe 3 feet lower(and as far as Im concerned unrunnable).
