This grate is meant more to start getting the speed out of my tunnel than rock bashing. But Im sure it will see its share knowing me. Very Happy

Cheers

(I could see it helping possibly and I definatly can't see it hurting so why not go for it?)

Laughing Laughing Laughing .. That the ticket.. Boat Hard or go Home .. Nice work James, I may have to try that out myself.. Cheers JR

Them are some fancy bars, the grate on my race boat is very similar to that in design. Only the back of the grate is square where the bars are welded on not 1/2 moon shaped. We gained some speed by going to the square design but that was @ 100 and some mph so it might be different @ lower speeds. Just my 2 cents.

Ive always wanted to get a closer look at that TopD, does the square intake just transition smoothly into the stock suction housing shape? I think I've seen that the leading edge of the back of the grate is actually 'rolled' over to make a round entry transition into the pump?? That seems to me would be better for attaching the bars too. I feel like Im trying to weld the bars to a pointed plate and it doesn;t seem to leave much room for a strong weld. I'd love to see a stock Eagle grate for this intake since I never got one with the hull.
Im hoping this will only help me see some better number with my fresh pump, SS A etc
Should be in the water thurs nite for a test

Cheers

Xero,
Check these shots out, they may help you a bit. New style grate like Top Dawg plus bolt in shoe piece. lots of work shaping the bars when you only have a grinder, rum and ear plugs!

What's the idea with that work at the back of the intake? How does this help?

Wilson,
That is what the bare machined shoe looks like as installed without any massaging or shaping. Haven't got to that part yet, hopefully try some tuning in that area before the Grande Prairie race.

Ok thats a series of interesting pics

Sandman am I seeing correctly that there is a rather noticable step directly ahead of that shoe piece? From here it looks like some kind of formed sheetmetal that the bars are welded to but it hardly looks like a smooth transition at the 'back of the hole' so to speak. I may not be seeing this correctly or need to see the grate out of the boat.
I couldn't figure out what you meant by shoe at first of course thinking in a traditional jetboat way but now I see what you mean in that the shoe is "inside" the grate
Interesting pics guys, keep em coming

(ran Xero for the first time last nite with the new pump and SS A, what a difference! Totally effortless getting on plane with 2 guys in it. reved to 5K without too much trouble and had more left but have some things to address on the motor before beating on it. it needs more trim badly its running just way too flat but it feels really good with the fresh pump )

Xero,
There is a blunt nosed rear ramp on the grate, it is about 2" before the leading edge of the shoe piece. Kinda weird looking, but it is supposed to be the latest development.
I think it is built to be an anti-reversion design. Still tuning things up so my learning curve is almost vertical right now! I'm in the low 70's right now with the set up you see, aluminum B cut impeller @ 5k. Still lots to do yet to be competitive. I will try to get some other shots of the grate when it is out of the boat. Not sure what the suction side pressure is yet as my gauge is crapped out and new one hasn't been put in yet. I'll keep you informed.

Apreciated
I have yet to get my pressure sensors installed and was kinda pissed I didn't have time with this last pump rebuild, if ya can grab some pics of where you put them that may help me out too(actually any pics/info of the whole pressure setup would be helpful to me)

That intake looks wildly different from what I have, now Im worried! lol

Cheers

I would understand the anti-reversion, but I don't see how that would be considered a shoe. I would think the leading edge of the grate itself would be the shoe.
It seems if a guy wants more pressure or shoe you'd have to put a shim between the grate and the bolting place.

Sandman,
What hull do you have ? What year is it ?
I'm turning an "A" stainless 5100 and also am in the 70's.
