hey guys and gals i just bought a 20' muskwa and going to do my first oil change just wondering what oil to use brand and weight
i live in northern BC and will run the boat well into the fall. thanks your info will be appreciated.

Mobil 1 or Amsoil both work well in a race engine, 5-30 or 10-30. Can't find 15-40 mobil 1 any more.

use a regular base stock oil ...not synthetic... for the next oil change and then go to a synthetic oil after that...... if you use just regular oil for the first couple of changes your rings will seat better

There is also a product that GM sells called "Engine Oil Additive", it is great for breaking in a new engine, especially the cam, as it has a higher zinc content.
The regular base stock oil for break in is good advice, using synthetic after will give you long service.

thanks guys for the help think i'am going with 10-30 stock grade and going to look for the engine additive where can a guy find that stuff?

In G.P. you can find it at Ken Sargeants, local G.m. Dealer. You should be able to locate it in Ft. St. John at the dealerships.

I would check your engine manual and see what they recommend.

I believe in doing more frequent oil changes so I run mineral oil, like sandman said synthetic will give you more hrs to your next service, but either way a guy is going to do a few oil changes a season so I would rather save a few bucks and run mineral oil.

I have never used an engine oil additive to break in an engine, so I cant really say anything on that except that I have never had any issues breaking in an engine without it, so I would save my money there as well.

hey lucky, i live in the yukon and just got a jet last year, put a new mill in it and we put 15/40 rotella with the zinc add. in and she broke in real nice! got the stuff from g.m. dealer, have a great season boatin!!!

Shell's Rottela HD engine oil is a great oil, it doesn't have to meet all the EPA reg's so it still has alot of those High Pressure additives that the automotive oil manufactures had to remove.

the book says 25/40 or 15/50 what is going to be the best for summer?
