Some thoughts about what I see as POSSIBLE roadblocks, hassles and downright disqualification items that may confront you at registration. Some are new, some have been around but are being enforced more DILIGENTLY.

#1 is helmet specifications and colors. We operate and are governed by the UIM and the APBA. The UIM rule is:

205.07-PROTECTING HELMET
Any person aboard any boat taking part in races must wear an adequate
helmet which at least the upper 50 % (area) must be of fluorescent
orange, red, yellow or international orange color
. These helmet colors
must be bright enough to be clearly visible in the water.

The wearer is entirely responsible for the efficiency of his helmet. The
organisers are requested to repeat this important rule in their particular
rules, as well as in their advance-programmes, race instructions and
programmes.
Each National Authority may request that their nationals wear a helmet
of a type laid down in their own national rules.

For USA racers this is the rule from the APBA that you must comply with:

"Considering the fact that there is no safest life jacket and helmet that will eliminate all risks, the participants are solely and ultimately responsible for selecting a suitable helmet and life jacket. Only those considered in good condition may be used.
A. Helmets must meet the specifications set forth by any of the following: Department of Transportation, American National Standards Institute, Inc., Snell, or military specification helmet designed for military aircraft — Mil-Spec helmets (CGF LA100, LH050, LH150, LH250; Gentex HGU84P) and Peltor helmets (Rally Pro Helmet EN ECU 04 or 05) are acceptable.
1) The upper fifty percent (50%) of the helmet must be a single color of the following: yellow or orange or international orange or fluorescent red.
2) Half-shell and 3/4 type helmets are not allowed."

My advice is if they are "just" red, just blue, just fluorescent green-get another of the above 4 colors on the upper 50%. That is the safe, lack of possible hassle play. This is one that APBA (and UIM) are really insisting on compliance-no make that DEMANDING compliance. The APBA referee, inspector and the UIM commissioner can pull the trigger on this one.

There may not be a lot of ways to “fix” this in St Maries. FIX it now or come prepared to comply.

#2) Medical exam-per UIM 205.01-all drivers must have an Annual Medical Exam. “ANNUAL” indicates that it must have taken place in 2012. A medical / physical done in 2011 does not meet the Annual requirement. This is a new racing season-get one that is dated 2012.

#3) Drivers in “A” and Unlimited must have a certified or apostilled letter from their National Authority indicating that the driver has the necessary experience, capabilities and medical condition to race in “A” and Unlimited.

#4) All USA in boat competitors must have a 2012 APBA Racing License.

#5) All Canadian, Mexican and New Zealand competitors must have a current National Authority Letter of Authority and respective National Authority Membership Racing License

Please carefully consider the items on the CHECKLIST that is contained in the Advance Program. "But that was OK last year" or "I did not know" or "we've never done that before" are really not sufficient to get you a "pass"
