I have a 17' sport with a 427 Ford with 1/34x1/78 steped headers thrugh transome. i'm injecting water at the collector to cool down the rubber boots at the transome. there is no engine cover on the boat and its melting the plug wires, i have heat rap around the wires and still does it. Is it not getting enough air to cool them? i was wondering if it was scavenging water into the pipes and super heating the header tubes?

Check your timing....I had a similar problem where I was melting oil caps, (over the transom headers) adjusted my timing and It stopped doing that.

Premium will be good but better bring timing to 30 total and buy some Kevlar sleeves for the wires.

Thanks everyone, I wrapped the headers and put on some Taylor heat sleeves. Backed the timing to 34 seems to be better. My engine builder said that if I back the timing off to far it will build heat also.
