I am just wondering the pro's and con's of each, or is 47" just cheaper and that's the only reason some people go that route instead of full UHMW?

I went 47"...that's the biggest portion of the boat that's in the water. Price is another factor and it adds a bit more weight, but probably wouldn't notice it that much on a big 20', but I did notice the price.

I have seen the differences between full Teflon and 4' Teflon on a hull and the handling difference was quite amazing.
My full Teflon 16' lynx was like a sheet of plywood compared to a friends Muskwa that only ran the 4' Teflon.
The full Teflon covered the chine angles, resulting in less grip while cornering. 4' Teflon leaves the chine angles open thus biting better.
the muskwa handled way way better where my lynx would slide all over the place.

I would think that the length and weight difference between the two boats would contribute to different handling as well.

Oh yeah the weight makes a difference, but this is a comparison that is closer to a 14 degree hull against an 8 degree hull.

Ok thanks guys, my 16ft Lynx has 47" UHMW and does seem to corner better than guys I have been out with with same boat and full UHMW. I have beat my boat pretty good and no dents at all in the bottom where the UHMW doesnt cover. Maybe I have just been lucky but from what I have seen I don't know if full UHMW is worth it for the extra weight and loss of cornering ability?

Interesting, I asked a lot of questions when I was looking to order mine and everyone just said get full uhmw. Not one person mentioned the handling. Makes sense. I ordered a 10 degree for compromise between handling and shallow water ability trying to get the best of both worlds.
